IBHNet:Projected PLC-PLC communication

Starting with firmware version 2.142 it is possible with the IBH Link S7++ and the IBH Link S7++ HS to establish connections between multiple PLCs. Since only unprojected connections are possible via MPI®, the IBH Link offers the possibility to establish projected S7-Connections over Ethernet or the PROFIBUS.

To permit communication of PLCs through one or more IBH Link, it must be entered as S7 station in NetPro® and the option "Configuration with NetPro®" must be chosen in the IBH Link configuration. Following data and type of station have to be used that the Siemens project is aware of the IBH Link:

  • MLFB: 6ES7 412-2EK06-0AB0 V6.0 in Rack 0, Slot 2
  • MPI®/Profibus address same as IBH Link
  • IP address same as IBH Link

The IBH Link now permits for NetPro® to download hardware data, like it would with a real PLC station. The data will be automatically saved to flash during the STOP to RUN transition. After the hardware configuration is downloaded to the IBH Link, PG or HMI stations now can reach any PLC, also in any subnet.

As soon as projected communication is correctly set up, communication can be established over the function blocks listed in the table below:

S7-300® S7-400® Name
FB8 SFB8 USEND
FB9 SFB9 URCV
FB12 SFB12 BSEND
FB13 SFB13 BRCV
FB14 SFB14 GET
FB15 SFB15 PUT

The various possibilities for projected communications between PLCs are shown in a PDF file. The files explaining the communication settings can be found in the installation folder. Sample projects can also be found there.

Attention: With projected connections via RFC1006 it is not possible any more to communicate over unprojected connections. The IBHNet communication via the IBHNet driver is not influenced from this setting.
