IBH Link UA:Rockwell PLC

Overview

The IBH Link UA can connect Rockwell Automation ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers over EtherNet/IP and expose their tags through OPC UA.

Create the station

1. Open the station configuration in the web interface.
2. Create a new Rockwell station.
3. Enter the IP address of the Rockwell controller.
4. Add the appropriate CPU to the station.
5. Apply the configuration and verify that the controller is reachable.

After a successful connection, the tags appear below the selected station:

Import from Studio 5000

As an alternative to browsing the controller, an XML file generated by Rockwell Studio 5000 can be imported. Select the station, upload the XML file and verify the imported tags before using them in the OPC UA address space.

Optimized read and write access

Rockwell communication combines multiple tag operations into bundled read and write requests where possible. This reduces the number of EtherNet/IP requests and improves communication performance. No separate activation is normally required.

Troubleshooting

• Controller cannot be reached: Check IP address, routing, firewall and EtherNet/IP access to the controller.
• No tags are displayed: Verify the CPU type, controller connection and user permissions.
• XML import fails: Generate the file again in Studio 5000 and check that it belongs to the configured controller project.
• Tag value is invalid: Compare tag name, data type and array dimensions with the Studio 5000 project.
• Communication is slow: Check network load and avoid unnecessary duplicate tag definitions.
