Overview
The IBH OPC UA Server/Client for Windows and Linux PCs uses Copilot server-based licensing.
The preferred method is online activation with the license serial number and its associated eight-digit secret. For systems without Internet access, manual activation is available using a system-bound license request and a signed JSON license file.
License status
In the Web Configurator, open the System page and locate the License section. It displays:
- status of the installed license
- licensee
- license serial number
- validity period
- enabled features
A license may be displayed as Valid, Expired or Invalid. If no license is installed, the status is No license file. For a license without an expiry date, the validity field displays Unlimited.
Online activation
Online activation requires Internet access to the Copilot license server, the license serial number and the associated eight-digit secret.
- In the Web Configurator, open the System page.
- Go to the License section.
- Under Online activation, enter the license serial number.
- Enter the eight-digit secret.
- Select Activate online.
- Wait until the license has been downloaded, verified and installed.
- Verify the license status, licensee, serial number, validity period and enabled features.
The secret is only required for activation and should be treated as confidential.
Manual activation without Internet access
If the target system cannot access the Internet, the license can be transferred manually.
- In the Web Configurator, open the System page and the License section.
- Under Manual alternative – License request, select Download. The Web Configurator creates
ibhlinkua-license-request.json. - Transfer this request file to a computer with Internet access and use the designated IBHsoftec/Copilot licensing process to obtain a signed license file.
- Transfer the signed JSON license file back to the target system.
- Under Manual alternative – License file, select and install the file.
- Verify the displayed license status and enabled features.
The license request is bound to the target system. Do not modify either the request file or the signed license file.
Reinstallation and system migration
A license is bound to its system. An existing license file therefore cannot simply be copied to another computer. For a system migration, create a new license request and contact IBHsoftec to arrange the transfer or reissue of the license.
Also back up the IBH OPC UA Server/Client configuration before reinstalling the software.
Troubleshooting
- Online activation fails
- Check the Internet connection, DNS, proxy and firewall settings, system time, license serial number and eight-digit secret.
- License file is rejected as invalid
- Use only the unmodified signed JSON license file for the system on which the license request was created.
- License has expired
- Check the displayed validity period and renew the license if necessary.
- A required feature is missing
- Compare the displayed features with the purchased license scope.
