To reuse symbols and to avoid double documentation there is a converter, that permits to apply STEP®7 symbols from symbolic tables (*.SEQ) files into I/O tasks. It is also possible to read variables from the I/O tasks and convert into STEP®7 symbolic tables.

The converter tool 'Task2Seq' also permits to create new I/O tasks from the contents of a symbolic table and to refresh I/O task contents with the contents of the symbolic table. It is also possible to create new symbolic tables from existing I/O tasks.

Refreshing the I/O tasks with the contents from a symbolic table can be performed in different ways.

Symbolic tables are created with the STEP®7 Symbol Editor. The following steps are required:

  • Open the symbolic table in the STEP®7 Symbol Editor.
  • Select the menuitem 'Symbol table -> Export'.
  • In the 'Export' dialog choose the format "Assignment list (*.SEQ)".

Symbolic tables can also be imported with the STEP®7 Symbol Editor. The following steps are required:

  • Open the symbolic table in the STEP®7 Symbol Editor.
  • Select the menuitem 'Symbol table -> Import'.
  • In the 'Import' dialog choose the format "Assignment list (*.SEQ)".

S7 for Windows® projects always work with SEQ files. To exchange the symbolic table of a S7 for Windows® project, only a symbolic table with identical name needs to be created. It can be replaced in the project with the Windows Explorer.
